Paradise in Patagonia! The Traful valley is home to Estancia Arroyo Verde, a family owned and managed Lodge, it offers fly-fishing on the world renowned river Traful which runs through the unspoiled beauty of the property and has for more than 35 years played host to discerning anglers of all ages and abilities and to those seeking adventure in comfort.
The Larivière family has been in the valley for 80 years. Felipe Larivière with his wife Luisa and their son Maurice, arrived at Estancia La Primavera in January 1932. The ranch dedicated to cattle and sheep rearing was also a fishing lodge even then, owned by an English gentleman, Sir Henry Bell. Felipe Larivière fell in love with the place and reserved the lodge for his family and friends for two seasons running.
Packing for your trip all depends when you visit us.
You should know that Patagonia weather is unpredictable. During your stay some days can be very warm (over 25°C), sunny and with no wind and others can be cold (5°C), windy and rainy. In spring (Nov. thru Dec.) and fall (mid March to end April) it can still be cool. Rain occasionally and with frosts at night.
For the beginning of the season lines #7 or #8 and from the middle of January onwards lines #5 or #6 are advisable. An assortment of fast sinking, sinking tips and floating lines are recommended. Your choice will depend on the level and temperature of the water. Short leaders are necessary for the fast sinking lines, 12 or 14 feet for dry fly-fishing; 4x to 0x, and even stronger up to 12 lbs. test for big flies. Because of catch and release regulations we recommend barbless hooks.
